Going crazy on the streets of Shibuya
Yet another one on my favourite place in Tokyo... you could really go crazy in the midst of the lights, atmosphere and crowd.

Kyoto - bird's eye view
Kyoto is such an interesting place... it's a good mix of metropolitan and heritage. I think it'll be really nice to live in Kyoto for awhile, always something interesting round the corner. Not sure if anyone can see the rooftop court at the bottom of the photo.

Where this blog got it's name from...
So, the night when I decided to start a blog (sort of an effort to kill time)... I asked my wife, what should I call this blog. Many brilliant ideas came to mind. Then my wife took out her ODB... flip it to one of her recent readings and came up with the term "The Human Camera". I had a read of it... found it inspirational... exactly what I wanted this blog to do (for me) as a place where I can "bring to my remembrance" all the good, bad and neutral things in my life.

Extracted from ODB's website: "Steven Wiltshire, who has been called “the human camera,” has the amazing ability to recall tiny details about anything he has seen and then reproduce them in drawings. For example, after Steven was flown over the city of Rome, he was asked to draw the city center on blank paper. Astonishingly, he accurately reproduced from memory the winding streets, the buildings, the windows, and other details.
Wiltshire’s memory is remarkable. Yet there’s another kind of memory that’s even more amazing—and much more vital.

Busy night at Shibuya
This is a follow up to my earlier post on the crowded streets of Shibuya. Where the hoard of people are like ants near an ant nest. So many lights, so many actions... never a dull moment. all in all a true sensory overload. I would definitely want to visit this place a second time in the near future... just to take in all the place has to offer.
Just before the rain came...
Well, weekends are times when I would catch up on subjects that I would like to capture. I try to do this whenever I can. Taking the night scenes of Melbourne city has been something that I've always wanted to do since coming here a few year ago. For whatever reasons... it seems that I never quite got to do so... bad timing, wrong dates, busy with work commitments, meeting with friends... anyway there seems to be more than one time which I have intended to take the night scene but did not get to do so.
A few weeks ago... I have decided to fulfil this longing of mine & braved the cold chilly winter. I waited until the sun is down.. set up my tripod... getting the settings right for a shot... within a few minutes the rain started. This is a shot I managed to squeeze in before the rain pouring. If only I get 30 minutes more...

Interesting streets of Tokyo
There is no lack of interesting places and buildings to shoot in Tokyo... you get a shot every ten steps... wish i had brought a bigger memory stick with me.
St Kilda - Melbourne
St Kilda is a bit of a hippie area which is nice and near to the city. Easiest way is to get there via car - along Beach road. I drive pass the place all the time... one day I decided to catch a few photos before headed home. There’s no bad place to stop, so you can just pull out at the right moment, take a shot, and hop back in the car. It’s so easy — it almost feels like cheating! What a great place to catch the sunset... St Kilda beach.
Enjoying the night at Docklands
Anyone heard of fireworks in July? If you don't mind the chilling winds in a cold winter night... head down to Docklands every Friday night in July. There is a free fireworks display - it last for about 15 minutes. Great stuff... after the fireworks head down to one of the posh restaurants in the Docklands.

Biscuit Seller along the streets of Asakusa
Biscuit sellers line the streets of Asakusa. The place is busy with bus loads of tourists - I bought one from this man not because I was hungry but there is a certain friendly demeanour from the seller (and also to compensate him for stalking his stall as my photo subject).
Yes, it was expensive for a piece of biscuit but when you saw how each one is delicately handmade and grilled on open fire, you get the "it's worth it" sense.

Crowded streets of Shibuya
Ok, this place is simply crowded... like extremely crowded. Never a dull moment... a bit of a sensory overload when you are in the midst of it. Truly, it's incredible to find so many people at one place. When the traffic lights turns, you can see pedestrians coming from all directions... quite literally like ants marching in line ... following each other. I think I have a video showing how hectic the place it. Mind you, I was there at around 9pm at night and it feels like peak hour human traffic in Melbourne city (only busier)! I was busy clicking away... hours seem like minutes.
Boy and Deer - Nara, Japan
Sometimes it's interesting just seeing how kids and animals connect. Photo was taken in a place called Nara just outside the Todaiji Temple (東大寺). Snack vendors sell "shika sembei" (deer biscuits) to visitors so they can enjoy feeding the deer. Some of the deer have learned to bow in response to tourists' bows - this one is just after FOOD!
人力車 - Japan
The word rickshaw originates from the Japanese word jinrikisha which literally means "human-powered vehicle".
While I have not been on one... I can tell it's some serious effort pulling one around with passengers on it! Respect - I would not be able to move an inch carrying such a load!

Streets of Tokyo, Japan
One of the best holiday I have taken in a long time! Walking along the streets of Tokyo... beautiful buildings, friendly faces... This place is really awesome.
It’s one of the wildest and most unique places in an already unique city. It’s the sort of place where you take a people-shooting lens because of all the various types of people you see walking through the streets.

St Paul's Cathedral, Melbourne
I was actually early for my dinner appointment, I saw this cathedral right opposite the Flinders train station and decided to venture in for a look. Once inside the cathedral I was awe-strucked! Thank God I brought my camera along with me... armed with my camera... here is the result. Folks visiting Melbourne... this is definitely worth visiting - for aspiring photographers, the best part "they allow tripods".
Street Calligraphy, Beijing China
Took this photo in December 2007 during a family trip to Beijing. I recall it to be a really really cold morning, I was in a park full of people, some were doing folk dancing, others taichi and then this lady caught my attention. Using water and a calligraphy brush she started writing on the pavement. The result was astonishing... such beautiful "public art".
The Human Camera Blog Site
Why the "human camera" project? Basically, the term "human camera" is used... as life is an amalgamation of many little snap-shots (and memories) that comes together to form life's important moments.
