GM Holden Footy (Part 3)... my last post on this event!

I was worried that it would rain on the day, thankfully the weather held up & the sun was beaming! Admittedly, I am not much of a sport photography person - so when I was asked to cover the event, I sort of made it my first real attempt in taking photos of people in sport. Fair to say, there were moments where I stood at one side of the ground waiting for some "action" to happen only to see it on the other side. After a bit of "to and fro" I finally decided to stand in the middle of the ground not sure if it was the right thing to do ... but for me its a somewhat a logical thing to do... yes, I'll probably not be close to the real action... but this was somewhat compensated by the zoom len I brought with me (I am thinking... if only I have the 2x adaptor).

After about 2 hours in the sun running (rather messing) around with my heavy gear... my most important lesson for sports photography ... I'll bring a monopod next time. no wonder those pro sports photographer always have a monopod attached (I had sore arms... towards the end of the event, I almost ran out of motivation to lift my camera). This is seriously the most important gear for sports photos... that way your eyes can see through the viewfinder throughout the entire game - capturing every moment that counts.

Having said that... I still have questions re whether I should use the "one shot" mode or switch to "al servo"... I find that one shot is better at focusing - but provided I am fast enough.

In all, I think it was a fun day... I learnt some practical tip from just being on the ground.

The Outpost Restaurant in Noojee

One more shot...

The Outpost Restaurant in Noojee

This restaurant is probably's Noojee's best kept secret! The food is seriously good and the ambience is excellent... really blends into the rural Victoria type feel! Highly recommend the Roast Pork Belly. While the food took awhile to reach us... it sort of didn't really bother anyone since there's so much interesting things to explore in the restaurant. Hosts are John and Barb Snelling.

Address: 38 Loch Valley Road, Noojee, Vic 3833.

Toorongo Falls - Noojee

Almost 1.5 years later, I've decided to revisit this place... sure if the weather holds up I would have surely stayed for a longer period of time. The trip was somewhat frustrating... it kept raining ... it was cold, wet and slippery. fortunately, I did manage a small number of shots before I called it a day! I think someone should set up a shelter along the track to the waterfall... for rainy days... it'll be a blessing.

Tanjil Bran - on-route to Mt Baw Baw

This is the last stopover before you proceed to Mt Baw Baw... from a short distance I saw some smoke coming out from the chimney of a cabin (believe it's named Crowmwell Cabin). Decided to hop in to see what's there... to my delight... and I took these photos!

Satay !! The great food safari!

I took this shot about 6 months ago during a chinese new year street bazaar in Boxhill. Really like the ambience of this shot. Smoke in the air... the activity... wish that somehow I can retain the smell!

What a classic! need I say more? Is there a best owling shot contest I can send this to...

Shot of Melbourne from across the Yarra River

Yesterday was the first sunny weekend in awhile - since my mum and sister are in Melbourne, we have decided to visit the city. The weather was fantastic, although my mum wasn't that thrilled about walking in the sun... guess they get so much of it in Singapore. Will try to visit the place again after the sunset to get some night shots of the place... I am sure it'll be a nice place to shot.

Hiroshima - Tori Gate (OTorri)

Miyajima Island (official known as Itsukushima Island) floats like a diamond in the Inland Sea of Japan. From the misty beginnings of Japanese history Miyajima has been classified as one of the most scenic places in Japan. Love the culture of this place - lots of weekenders climbing the mountains. will post a picture of the peak (observatory) next time and tell of the story of how I finally reach the peak...

Does anyone know where is this place?

Took this photo during our of the photo trip in Gippsland, I believe it's somewhere near Noojee... but can't be certain. anyway... it's nice to take a shot of a church without all the fancy coloured glasswork and painted walls.
